Tajik man missing for 21 years found in Kazakhstan

Asia-Plus

A Tajik citizen missing since 2003 has been reunited with his family thanks to the efforts of law enforcement agencies in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, the Interior Ministry’s press center says.

Fifty-two-year-old Tolib Begimqulov, a resident of Shurnova village, which is subordinate to the city of Panjakent in Sughd province, disappeared on his way to Russia.

It was later discovered that he had been in a traffic accident in Kazakhstan, suffering a traumatic brain injury and developing retrograde amnesia.  This left him unable to remember his past, family, or hometown.

Begimqulov reportedly remained in the Kazakh city of Shymkent, unaware of his identity.

His family filed a missing person report in 2014, but both his parents passed away during his absence.  He is now reunited with his wife, children, and other relatives, who view his return as a cause for celebration.

Modern technologies and cooperation with the Tajik Consulate in Almaty and Kazakh authorities helped locate Begimqulov and bring him home. His name has been removed from the list of missing persons.
