President Emomali Rahmon, who is also Head of the Government, introduced a number of staff changes on January 21, relieving some ministers and government officials of their posts and appointing new individuals in their place, the Tajik president’s official website says.
Ministry of Labor and Supreme Court leadership changes
Gulnora Hasanzoda was relieved of her post of Minister of Labor, Migration, and Employment due to her retirement. Soliha Holmahmadzoda, previously a member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) representing the ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), was appointed as her successor.
Nasrullo Mahmoudzoda was also relieved of his post of Secretary of the Security Council in connection with transfer to another job. Details about his new position or his replacement have not yet been disclosed.
Shermuhammad Shohiyon was recalled from his position as Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan. His dismissal has been submitted for approval by the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).
Rustam Mirzozoda has been nominated as his successor, with his candidacy awaiting confirmation by the legislature.
Rustam Mirzozoda, 50, has been Chairman of the High Economic Court of Tajikistan since 2022.
Shermuhammad Shohiyon, 63, served as Chairman of the Supreme Court since 2015 and has now been nominated to be elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon by the PDPT list.
Additionally, Azizbek Khayriddinzoda, Deputy Chairman of the High Economic Court, Amirkhon Ishoqi and Shodmon Azizzoda, Deputy Chairmen of the Supreme Court, retired due to reaching the retirement age.
These changes have been submitted to the Majlisi Milli for approval.
Changes in the Emergencies Committee and Border Troops leadership
By other decrees, Rustam Nazarzoda was relieved of his post of Chairman of the Emergencies Committee due to his retirement.
Rahmonali Rajabali, who had served as First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) and Commander of the Border Troops since 2013, was appointed as his successor.
Murodali Rajabzoda, who had previously served as Deputy Commander of the Border Troops, was appointed as First Deputy Chairman of the SCNS and Command the country’s Border Troops.
Abdurahmon Halimzoda was named Director of the Agency for Social Insurance and Pensions under the Government of Tajikistan, replacing Dilmurod Davlatzoda, who had held the post since 2019 and has now retired.
Other appointments and changes
Additional personnel appointments were made in various state structures, including: Nasir Saidzoda, appointed Chairman of the Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting; Ilyos Idriszoda, appointed Director of the State Service Agency under the President of Tajikistan; Sadreddin Shamsiddinzoda appointed Director of the Safina State Television Channel; Mahmadyoqub Zokirzoda, appointed First Deputy Director of Safina State TV Channel; and Sokhibnazar Muhammad, appointed Director of Jahonamo State Television Network.
New rectors and directors were also appointed to several educational institutions and government agencies, including the Tajik Medical University and the Institute of Physical Education.
Retirements and new appointments
According to the Tajik president’s official website, several ministry and committee leaders were relieved of their duties due to reaching retirement age, while young, experienced, and qualified specialists have been appointed to key leadership positions.
Other notable changes include:
- Akhtam Abdullozoda was relieved of his post of Head of the Main Directorate for State Secrets Protection under the Government of Tajikistan in connection with transfer to another job;
- Karimjon Azizov was relieved of his post of First Deputy Director of Safina in connection with transfer to another job;
- Mahmadsho Gulzoda was relieved of his post of Rector of the Abu Ali ibn Sino Tajik Medical University in connection with transfer to another job.
These changes reflect a significant restructuring aimed at introducing new energy and expertise into Tajikistan's leadership.
