The Senate (Uzbekistan’s upper chamber of parliament) has ratified the Treaty on Allied Relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.  The document was ratified on January 25, 2025.

This treaty elevates the friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level of alliance, a priority direction of Uzbekistan's foreign policy in Central Asia, uzdaily.uz reports.

The document outlines the expansion of cooperation in various areas, including:

  • The peaceful resolution of regional conflicts in accordance with international law;
  • Continuing efforts to demarcate state borders;
  • Implementation of mutually beneficial projects in the water and energy sectors;
  • Development of parliamentary diplomacy;
  • Strengthening bilateral ties.

The treaty also aims to deepen collaboration in economic, investment, scientific-technical, cultural-educational spheres, as well as in sports and tourism.

Particular attention is given to coordinating efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, and transnational organized crime.

The ratification of this treaty further strengthens the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and promotes peace and security in the region.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Treaty on Allied Relations between their countries in Dushanbe on April 18 2024.

During last year’s state visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan, a total of 28 documents were signed, covering nearly all aspects of the multifaceted Uzbek-Tajik cooperation.

Tajikistan has signed similar treaty with Kazakhstan as well.  The Treaty on Allied relations between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan was inked by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Dushanbe on August 23, 2024.
