The direct work on creating a joint Tajik-Russian industrial and technology park in Dushanbe will begin this year, Tajikistan’s Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, told reporters in Dushanbe on February 6.
According to him, a corresponding agreement between the governments of the two countries is expected to be signed soon, after which the construction of the park will commence.
The minister noted that the Dushanbe technopark will be established on the site of a former machine-building plant after the reconstruction of existing buildings. “This will allow the technopark to be launched in a shorter time frame,” he emphasized.
Sherali Kabir also stated that the latest modern equipment will be acquired and installed for the future park.
He believes that "favorable tax incentives" will help attract investors.
Overall, the minister said that, following the president’s directive, more than 30 such technoparks are planned for development in the country.
Kabir emphasized that the Dushanbe technopark will be modeled after the Kazan Industrial Technopark, which he personally finds “very impressive.”
“Projects for the creation of eight technoparks have already been implemented, but they are small and intended for local needs,” he said.
Additionally, the minister mentioned that negotiations are underway for the establishment of an industrial technopark in cooperation with China.
“We are in the final stage, and I believe that we will begin work on this park within this year,” he added.
The minister did not specify what products will be manufactured in the park.
The intention to create a joint Tajik-Russian industrial park in Dushanbe was first reported by the media in May last year. The announcement came from Roman Chekushov, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Licensing in Foreign Trade at the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“We have agreed with our colleagues that this project will be implemented in several stages. The first stage will be an industrial park almost in the center of the Tajik capital, based on a former machine-building plant.
It is an excellent site with great transport accessibility and the potential for organizing business events,” Chekushov said during the Russia-Tajikistan Business Council meeting at the Russia – Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2024.
Industrial and technology parks are places which, due to a concentrations of firms from one sector and supporting science and research facilities, are enabled to develop quickly.
