The Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) produced 82.2 thousand tons of primary aluminum in 2024, representing a 23.3% increase compared to 2023, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT).
In 2023, the production volume of this material amounted to over 66.6 thousand tons.
In monetary terms, the production of primary aluminum last year grew by 230.2 million somonis (over US$21 million) or 47.3%. The total value of the produced goods reached 716.4 million somonis (US$65 million).
The export of primary aluminum in 2024 amounted to over 71 thousand tons, an increase of almost 37% compared to 2023. Revenue from aluminum exports last year exceeded US$180 million.
Local enterprises processed around 18.9 thousand tons of primary aluminum, which is an increase of almost 3.5 thousand tons (22.5%) compared to 2023.
The domestic processing of primary aluminum last year was carried out by the following enterprises: Titan-8888 LLC – 1,725 tons; Tajprof LLC JV TT – 1,228 tons; TALCO OJSC – 626 tons; and Alumin Prof LLC – 115 tons.
It is expected that in 2025, primary aluminum production will increase to 108 thousand tons.
The Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) is one of the ten largest aluminum smelters in the world and the only aluminum producing plant in Central Asia. TALCO is wholly owned by the Tajik government. Tajikistan does not mine alumina but imports the raw material through tolling arrangements.
Construction of the Tajik aluminum plant (TadAZ) began in 1972, and the first pouring of aluminum took place on March 31, 1975. The Tajik aluminum smelter has a rated capacity of 517,000 tons of primary aluminum per year.
On April 3, 2007, TadAZ was officially renamed to TALCO – Tajik Aluminum Company
