More than US$1 million has been transferred from Russia by Russian-based entrepreneurs of Tajik origin for the development of Khatlon province in Tajikistan, Khatlon governor, Davlatali Sayyeed, told reporters in Khatlon’s capital, Bokhtar, on February 14.
“This is the result of our trip to Russia last year and our meetings with entrepreneurs—natives of Khatlon. In various cities and regions of Russia, we met with our compatriots, spoke with them, and convinced them to invest in the development of their homeland. And they began to help,” he said.
According to Davlatali Sayyeed, with the participation of these compatriots, small and medium-sized enterprises, social facilities, schools, kindergartens, and medical centers have been built in the area. He noted that active work in this direction is taking place in the districts of Farkhor, Qubodiyon, and Dousti.
The chairman of Qubodiyon district, Davlat Sabourzoda, who also accompanied the province governor on the trip to Russia, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with fellow Tajiks at his press conference.
"Our fellow countrymen who are engaged in business in Russia have started investing in our development. Thanks to their funding, two kindergartens (for 400 and 150 children), a new three-story school worth US$600,000, additional classrooms in schools, and water supply lines worth approximately US$300,000 are being built in the district. Roads are also being repaired. In 2024, 27.5 km of roads were repaired, and this year, another 5 km will be renovated," said Davlat Sabourzoda.
He added that, on the instructions of the regional head, conditions will be created for Tajik entrepreneurs working in Russia to encourage them to start businesses in their homeland.
