First trilateral summit of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan expected to take place next month

Date:

The first trilateral summit of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is expected to take place in the Tajik northern city of Khujand on March 31, 2025.

Kyrgyz media, citing Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baysalov, report that the summit will be an important step in strengthening regional cooperation.

Baysalov reportedly also mentioned that Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have fully agreed on the delineation of their shared state border.

“Achieving this agreement required courage, determination, and sincere dedication to peace.  This agreement affirms the power of diplomacy and regional cooperation,” Kyrgyz official was cited as saying.

As it had been reported earlier, the heads of the State Committees for National Security (SCNS) of the Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, co-chairs of the governmental commissions on the delimitation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, Saymumin Yatimov and Kamchybek Tashiyev, on February 21 initialed several bilateral agreements, including:

  • The Agreement on the Tajik-Kyrgyz State Border;
  • The Agreement on the Construction and Use of Roadways, the Arrangement and Use of Road Intersections;
  • The Agreement between the governments on ensuring access to water management and energy facilities.

These documents have been prepared for signing by the Presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.  "These crucial legal documents will be presented to the highest leaderships of the two countries for review and signing.  If they are legalized, it will put an end to the 100-year dispute between the two fraternal republics regarding border issues.  After the heads of state sign them, they will serve the historical aspirations of our peoples and will benefit political, social, cultural, economic, and other interests," Tajik chief security officer Yatimov stated.
