More than 70 Tajik citizens rescued from snow traps in Kazakhstan

Date:

In Kazakhstan, assistance was provided to 70 passengers of a bus traveling from Tajikistan to Russia, including four children.  The vehicle came to a halt on a highway in the Kostanay region due to frozen diesel fuel.

Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry reported yesterday that a technical malfunction caused the diesel fuel to freeze, leaving the bus immobilized.  Rescuers reportedly used a heat gun to thaw the fuel and restored the battery’s operation, allowing the bus to continue its journey. None of the passengers were injured.

Additionally, in the Khromtau district of the Aktobe region, four Tajik citizens received assistance after their car broke down on the highway.

Over the past two days, February 22–23, due to worsening weather conditions—including blizzards, ice, strong winds, and zero visibility—Kazakhstan's emergency services evacuated 380 people, including 49 children.  More than 50 vehicles were also freed from snow drifts.  A total of 153 emergency response and search-and-rescue operations were carried out.

The Emergencies Ministry of Kazakhstan continues to warn the public about weather conditions and road closures, issuing storm alerts via SMS, online resources, and social media.  In light of the deteriorating weather, the ministry urges drivers to exercise caution on long trips and stay informed about storm warnings.
