Tajikistan's emergency and weather authorities are warning of a heightened risk of mudflows in several regions of the country as temperatures soar and rainfall continues.
According to the national Hydrometeorology Agency (Hydromet), glacial mudflows are likely in the foothill and mountainous areas in districts subordinate to the center (RRP), as well as in the western parts of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), between June 24 and 25. The agency attributes this to a sharp rise in temperatures coupled with recent precipitation.
In Sughd province, mudflow risks are also expected in certain areas due to ongoing rains.
Authorities strongly recommend that the public avoid spending time near bodies of water, and refrain from fishing, hunting, and grazing livestock on pastures during this period.
Earlier this month, Hydromet reported that June 2025 could bring record-breaking summer heat to Tajikistan. Meteorologists forecast that average temperatures will exceed climatic norms by up to two degrees Celsius across much of the country. Despite the heat, some regions may still experience thunderstorms, rainfall, and dust storms.
Medical experts advise individuals with weakened health to limit outdoor exposure, keep windows closed, use humidifiers indoors, reduce physical activity (including sports), and increase fluid intake to prevent heat-related illnesses.
