President Emomali Rahmon conducted a working visit to Darvoz district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) on June 25, where he inaugurated new infrastructure projects and assessed local living conditions before holding a key meeting with regional officials and community activists, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
During the meeting, President Rahmon reportedly reviewed the district’s socio-economic performance over the past five months, highlighting notable progress and ongoing development initiatives. He emphasized that the latest visit reflects continued advancements in the region's infrastructure and public services.
Among the highlighted achievements was the opening of Qalaikhumb-Vanj-Rushan road, a 92.5-kilometer stretch of the international highway connecting Dushanbe and GBAO’s capital, Khorog. The project includes 12 overpasses and a 3,400-meter tunnel.
Rahmon described this project as a significant indicator of public support for the government's constructive development policies.
The president also recalled that, since independence, 17 state investment projects totaling over 1 billion somonis have been implemented in Darvoz. Currently, six more projects worth over 1.4 billion somonis are underway, bringing the total investment from various sources to more than 1.9 billion somonis over 34 years.
Addressing global challenges and their economic implications, Rahmon underscored the need to ensure food security and emphasized the district’s potential in industrial development. The number of industrial products manufactured locally has increased fourfold during the independence period.
In the sectors of education and healthcare, the president reported that 34 general education institutions with a combined capacity of 3,500 students have been established since independence. Over the last decade, more than 25 million somonis have been invested in healthcare facility upgrades and service improvements.
Rahmon also urged local leaders, civil society members, religious figures, and educators to bolster political and legal education among youth, enhance national consciousness, and counter extremist ideologies.
In preparation for the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, the president noted that 121 facilities are planned for construction or renovation in the district. So far, 85 of these—accounting for 71% of the target—have been completed and inaugurated, the Tajik president’s official website noted.
