Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Tajikistan today on an official visit and held talks with President Emomali Rahmon, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to the friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran. Rahmon and Araghchi expressed satisfaction with the ongoing expansion of mutually beneficial ties, particularly in the context of previous high-level meetings and negotiations.
A central focus of the discussions was bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sectors. The leaders reaffirmed their shared interest in deepening collaboration across various areas, including energy, industry, international transportation, agriculture, science and technology, tourism, healthcare, culture, and more.
They reportedly also exchanged views on key regional and international developments of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue and strategic partnership.
Araghchi’s visit comes amid steadily growing relations between Tajikistan and Iran, which have shown consistent progress in recent years.
Iranian media outlets report that the top Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi is paying a one-day visit to Dushanbe to discuss bilateral cooperation. Iran is reportedly determined to deepen bilateral ties with Tajikistan.
According to IRNA, Ismaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who accompanies the top diplomat during the one-day trip, announced their arrival on his X account.
“This morning, alongside Foreign Minister Araghchi, we arrived in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, the land of our ethnically, linguistically, and emotionally kindred people,” the spokesperson said.
He added that the agenda for the trip includes discussions with high-ranking Tajik officials on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.
IRNA reports that highlighting the deep bonds of friendship and understanding between the Iranian and Tajik peoples, especially their shared language, heritage, civilization, history, and culture, Araghchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to making the most of these unique and valuable commonalities to further strengthen relations in economic, commercial, diplomatic, and cultural-educational spheres, among others.
He also conveyed warm greetings from Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian to the president and people of Tajikistan.
For his part, President Rahmon reportedly described Tehran-Dushanbe relations as special ties rooted in a deep historical friendship, and stressed the importance of further promoting bilateral relations.
President Rahmon and Foreign Minister Araghchi also exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, and West Asia, IRNA added.
Earlier reports indicated that Iran plans to launch a railway connection with Tajikistan. Currently, there is direct air service between the two countries, with Somon Air and Varesh Airline operating flights between Dushanbe and Tehran. The Iranian airline also runs flights between Mashhad and Dushanbe.
In January, Iran and Tajikistan signed 22 cooperation documents issued a joint statement on bilateral cooperation during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s official visit to Dushanbe.
