A foreign citizen attacked police officers in Moscow, TASS reports, citing the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. A criminal case has been opened on this fact.
"The investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Moscow have opened a criminal case against a foreign citizen. He is suspected of committing a crime under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Assault on the life of a law enforcement officer")," the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
The Baza telegram channel, with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, writes that the attacker is a 26–year–old native of Tajikistan. According to the investigation, the man, being near a gas station on Shchelkovsky highway, threw two molotov cocktails towards the cars of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and SBI (State Budgetary Institution) Zhilishchnik, after which he attacked police officers with a knife who arrived to detain him.
The attacker was neutralized and detained. The motive for his attack on police officers was, presumably, hatred of law enforcement officers, the investigation believes. The man will be sent for psychiatric examination.
If found sane, he faces 12 to 20 years in prison or life in prison.
