On September 15, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian in Doha on the sidelines of an extraordinary meeting of heads of Arab countries and members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), according to the Tajik president’s official website.
The parties reportedly discussed issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in recent years in cooperation between the two countries and called regular contacts and meetings an important factor in the development of relations.
Rahmon and Pezeshkian discussed the current complex and unstable situation in the Middle East and the Islamic world, and considered it necessary to take effective joint measures to maintain global stability and peace.
The recent adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly, which envisages a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the “two states for two peoples” principle, was welcomed.
It was stated that Tajikistan sees the solution to all crises and conflicts in the region and the world, first of all, in negotiations and dialogue.
They reportedly also exchanged views on a number of other issues being of mutual interest.
Iranian media reports say that speaking in a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, President Pezeshkian stated that Iran and Tajikistan's relations are developing satisfactorily based on their commonalities, and that the two nations have good capacities for cooperation that can secure the interests of both peoples.
The Iranian president’s press service notes that Pezeshkian emphasized that as the frequency of their meetings increases, the diplomatic interactions transition from formalities to expressions of warmth and friendship, facilitating and accelerating their cooperation.
He noted that both countries possess significant potential for collaboration that, if activated, would benefit both nations.
He also addressed the summit in Doha, highlighting the need for unity among Islamic nations to counter the actions of the Israeli regime, which, backed by the US and European countries, shows no limits to its aggression. He asserted that only through solidarity can the violent actions of this regime be halted.
In response, President Rahmon reportedly expressed his pleasure at meeting with his Iranian counterpart and reiterated that Iran and Tajikistan have diverse opportunities for collaboration. He stated his personal commitment to realizing these opportunities and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Furthermore, Rahmon echoed Pezeshkian's sentiments regarding the necessity of unity among Islamic countries to prevent the continuation of Israeli aggression.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the recent agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
