The Government of Tajikistan convened on October 31 to review the draft law “On the State Budget of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026” and to discuss budget forecasts for 2027–2028, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
During the session, officials reported that the projected state budget revenue for 2026 is expected to reach 65 billion somonis from all sources — an increase of 15.5 billion somonis, or 31.2 percent, compared to the approved budget for 2025. This figure represents 33.3% of the country’s projected gross domestic product (GDP) for 2026.
The government plans to allocate 29.5 billion somonis to the social sector, which accounts for 44% of total budget expenditures and 15.1% of GDP.
Finance Minister Fayziddin Qahhorzoda presented details of the 2026 draft budget, the forecast indicators for 2027–2028, and the draft Program of State External Borrowing for 2026 and subsequent projections through 2028.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the external borrowing program currently includes 52 credit agreements, of which 36 are active and 16 are still under negotiation.
President Emomali Rahmon emphasized the need to accelerate the digitalization of the economy, expand cashless payment systems across all sectors, and adopt advanced technologies at border and customs checkpoints.
The session also addressed initiatives to advance natural and exact sciences, preparations for the upcoming international conference “Water for Sustainable Development,” and the establishment of a project implementation unit for the construction of the Khutalon hydropower plant.
