DUSHANBE, September 21, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan and Russia are actively discussing issues related to creation of decent working conditions for Tajik migrant workers in the Russian Federation.

This problem was the focus of a meeting of Safiullo Devonayev, the head of Tajikistan’s Migration Service, with senior representatives of the directorate of Russia’s Federal Migration Service (MFS) for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast that took place here on September 19.

The source in Tajikistan’s Migration Service says Devonayev noted that a noticeable progress has been made in creation of decent working conditions for Tajik labor migrants working in Russia.  “These issues are now actively discussed and specific decisions will probably be made in the near future,” Devonayev was quoted as saying.

The sides have reportedly prepared a draft government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation on an organized recruitment of Tajik citizens for labor migration to Russia.

The agreement, in particular, provides for setting up migration support centers in Tajikistan.  These centers will make available vocational training courses and Russian language courses.  The centers will also make available accurate information related to the legal, social, economic and cultural realities in Russia.
