Anzob Pass opened for traffic, following closure of Istiqlol Tunnel on September 12

AYNI, September 10, 2008, Asia-Plus  — In connection with closure of the Istiqlol Tunnel on September 12, the Anzob Pass will be opened for traffic, Asia-Plus has learned from Sadriqul Sherbutayev, head of the state-controlled road maintenance agency in the Ayni district.

As it had been reported earlier, the Istiqlol Tunnel, better known as the Anzob Tunnel, linking central part of Tajikistan to the northern Sughd province, will be closed for traffic for two months starting from September 12.

President Emomali Rahmon visited the tunnel on September 7 and during the visit, it was decided to close the tunnel for traffic for two months in order not to hamper drift miners’ work.
