DUSHANBE, January20, 2014, Asia-Plus — 60 young teachers from the southern city of Kulob joined the ranks of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) last week, Adham Mirsaidov, the head of the PDP Center for Propaganda and Analysis, told Asia-Plus today.

According to him, PDP’s organization for Kulob last week also reviewed the results of the past year’s work and tasks set for this year.

“This year, we are making preparations for the 20th anniversary of the party that will be celebrated in December,” Mirsaidov added.

Founded in 1994, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting more than 237,000 registered members. President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party. The PDP now controls more than 60 percent of the seats in parliament.  Young people reportedly constitute some 40 percent of the party members.
