Sughd governor holds meetings with residents of border villages

Date:

DUSHANBE, January 23, 2014, Asia-Plus — On Thursday January 23, Sughd governor Abdurahmon Qodiri visited a number of border villages in the Isfara district, according to the Sughd regional administration.

Issues related to acceleration of work on development of villages, preparations for spring sowing campaign, cooperation between public and private sectors on creating new jobs, and putting into operation new capacities were a major topic of governor’s meetings with residents of the Vorukh and Chorkuh jamoats and the Khoja Alo village.

“Qodiri has called on residents of the villages bordering Kyrgyzstan not to succumb to provocations organized by separate forces that want to deteriorate relations between Tajiks and Kyrgyz,” the source said.

According to him, Sughd governor assured residents of border villages that all problems of demarcation and delimitation of the disputed sections of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border will be solved through negotiations.

Clashes between Kyrgyz and Tajiks along the border have been reported several times in recen years, especially in the Vorukh area, which is legally part of Tajikistan, but due to past redrawing of borders, it exists as an exclave some 20 kilometers inside Kyrgyzstan.
