DUSHANBE, January 28, 2014, Asia-Plus – Director of the Dushanbe-based TV station,

Poytakht

(The Capital), Abduqodir Abduqahhor, has resigned.

He justified his decision to resign by saying that he had failed to implement the concept of making

Poytakht

a modern TV channel.

“I wanted

Poytakht

to be modern and developed television channel but I failed to implement this concept, because the channel management wanted

Poytakht

to cover only themes that concern the city,” Abduqahhor told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Abduqodir Abduqahhor had served as director of

Poytakht

since October 2012.

Controlled by the Dushanbe mayor’s office,

Poytakht

was launched as public TV station in 1996.  In 2006, it was reportedly reorganized into the state TV channel.

In November 2012,

Poytakht

made shift to 24-hour broadcasting, becoming the third Tajik TV channel to be on the air around the clock.  The national TC channel,

Shabakai Avval

(Channel One), and the news channel,

Jahonnamo

, are broadcast 24 hours per day.
