“Poppy-2014” Operation Begins Tomorrow in Tajikistan

The first staff meeting of the “Poppy-2014” operation was held today, 19 May, in Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency.

According to the Drug-Control Agency, the meeting was chaired by the First Deputy Head of the Agency, the Head of Operations, Major-General Vaysiddin Azamatov.

Organizational issues on conducting “Poppy-2014” were  reviewed, as well as collaboration between ministries and other relevant structures.

The source said: “Plan of action for Poppy-2014 was approved, which included such points as organization of collaboration between law-enforcement agencies with the aim of organizing joint actions on closing drug channels; compilation of information on illicit trafficking in plant-origin drugs, as well as finding the sites under the operational area; monitoring the exercise of prescriptions; finding and destroying wild narcotics; holding explanatory work among the population.”

According to him, Ministry of Interior, National Security Committee, and Customs Services representatives participated in the meeting.

The Agencies information says: “An international operation, dubbed Channel, is supposed to be held within the frame of Poppy operation. The operation is held annually in Tajikistan. This year the operation will begin on 20 May and end of 30 November.”
