DUSHANBE, August 1, 2014, Asia-Plus – On Friday August 1, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov met here with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and China as well as a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

Aslov and Wang also discussed preparations for Chinese president’s state visit to Tajikistan scheduled for September this year and exchanged views on draft cooperation documents that are expected to be signed during the upcoming visit.

While discussing political consultations that took place between the foreign ministries of the two countries in Beijing this year, the ministers pointed to the necessity of continuation of the consultations as a mechanism for expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation.

They also stressed that the program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries that was signed during Wang’s official visit to Tajikistan would strengthen the foundation for cooperation between them.

The ministers noted that combating international terrorism, separatism and extremism remained one of the most topical problems of modern times.

They also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and a number of issues related to regional and international cooperation, including cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Dushanbe on July 30 on a three-day official visit.  During the visit, Wang Yi met top Tajik state officials to discuss cooperation issues.  On July 31, he joined his counterparts from the SCO member nations in a SCO foreign ministers’ meeting.
