Tajikistan can always count on Russia’s help and support, says Russian president

Date:

DUSHANBE, September 15, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan can always count on Russia’s help and support for stabilization of the situation in the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Dushanbe on September 15.

He noted that Tajikistan was faced with certain problems, “with attempts to destabilize the situation.”

“I want to say that we adequately assess these threats and Tajikistan can always count on our help and support,” the Russian leader said, adding that Tajik law enforcement agencies and armed forces “are successfully dealing with the problems that arise.”

Putin noted that Tajikistan was strategic partner and ally of Russia.

At the CSTO summit, the Russian leader also said Moscow was worried about a possible spillover of violence from Afghanistan into Tajikistan and other Central Asian states.
