Tajik organizations participate in SCO commodity fair in China

DUSHANBE, September 28, 2015, Asia-Plus – A number o Tajik organizations participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) commodity fair that took place in Xi’an, China on September 24-26.

The SCO member states, observer states and dialogue partners presented their products at the expo, which took place at the Qujiang International Conference & Exhibition Center.

The press center of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) reports that Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Barqi Tojik,  Somon Energy, Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Obi Zulol, Shirin (confectionery plant), and others put on display their achievements at the fair.

According to Chinese media outlets, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed in 2014 that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries should hold a commodity fair to strengthen regional economic cooperation. The fair was organized by China”s Ministry of Commerce and trade departments of SCO member countries, as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization itself.

Exhibitors from more than 14 countries and regions reportedly participated in the event.

Meanwhile, Xi”an, capital of Shaanxi Province, hosted the 2015 Euro-Asia Economic Forum on September 24.

The 2015 Euro-Asia Economic Forum reportedly welcomed over 2,000 guests including government officials and business executives from more than 50 countries and regions. The issues mainly focus on searching for new impetus and practical cooperation among countries along the Belt and Road initiative.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently has six full members — China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  Afghanistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan are six observer states, and SCO’s dialogue partners include Sri Lanka and Turkey.

The Organization’s six full members account for 60% of the land mass of Eurasia and its population is a quarter of the world”s population.  With observer states included, its affiliates account for about half of the world”s population.
