Tajik president, Dutch prime minister meet in New York to discuss cooperation issues

DUSHANBE, September 28, 2015, Asia-Plus – On the sidelines of the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit 2015, Tajik president Emomali Rahmon held talks with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte in New York on September 27.

The Tajik president’s official website reports the two sides discussed a broad range of issues related to state and further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Netherlands.

Rahmon reportedly noted that Tajik was interested in expansion of cooperation with the Netherlands and stressed that expansion of cooperation with member nations of the European Union was one of priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.

The two sides expressed interest in expansion of cooperation in the fields of security, investment, environmental protection, poverty reduction, rational use of water resources in Central Asia, education, agriculture, health, and strengthening of democratic institutions.

A delegation of senior representatives of a number of the Dutch agrarian companies is expected to visit Tajikistan in the near future, the president’s website said.

The Minister-President of the Netherlands, commonly referred to in English as the Prime Minister, is the head of the executive arm of the Dutch government and the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Netherlands.  He is the de facto head of government of the Netherlands and coordinates the policy of the government.
