DUSHANBE, September 29, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met at the UN Headquarters in New York City, with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, President Rahmon expressed hope that international community’s joint efforts will facilitate the ensuring of stability, peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.
The two sides reportedly highly commended the current level of relations between the two countries and reviewed the issues of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, including in the spheres of politics, security, economic, social domain, energy, transport, education.
Much attention was focused on the implementation of regional projects for the construction of railway Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan, preparation of basis for construction of railway China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran and CASA-1000 power transmission line from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Rahmon and Abdullah also had a constructive dialogue concerning the security issues, in particular in ensuring peace and stability in the border areas between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, and the joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.
