DUSHANBE, October 22, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Wednesday October 21, Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmatullozoda received Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov.
According to Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the two discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.
They, in particular, spoke out for resumption of regular air flight between Dushanbe and Baku. Inefficient transport links between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan are among factors impeding expansion of trade between the two countries, and therefore, the parties discussed the resumption of direct air communication between the two countries.
Hikmatullozoda and Hasanov also exchanged views on implementation of a protocol of the 3rd meeting of Tajikistan-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.
The two reportedly also touched upon the issue of connecting Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan regional railway projects. A rail link connecting Baku, Tbilisi and Kars is expected to be introduced into operation in the near future.
They underlined the significance of development of the international transport Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor.
We will recall that the direct flight between Dushanbe and Baku was launched on July 10, 2012 but it was suspended because of low passenger traffic. The flight was resumed in March 2013 but it was later suspended again for the mentioned reason.
