The government will take into account geography of the regions while developing economic programs and strategies.  Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament (Majlisi Oli) has endorsed a draft law on national social and economic development prognoses, concepts and programs in new edition worked out by the government.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on June 8.

Presenting the bill to lawmakers, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, noted that the previous law on national social and economic development prognoses, concepts and programs that was adopted in 2003 did not meet the present-day requirements.

Under the new law, economic development programs are designed for 1½ and 10 years

The economic development strategies are worked out by the government and endorsed by the parliament for the period up to 15 years.

Besides, the new law gives the government right to adopt the social and economic development concepts for period up to twenty years without the consent of the parliament.

The new law provides for setting up the methodological council on preparing the above-mentioned programs, concepts ad strategies at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

While developing economic development programs and strategies for the regions, they will take into account geographical, social and economic characteristics of regions, Hikmatullozoda noted.
