Funeral of two residents of Sarijar mahalla Chorkuh jamoat, Hikmatullo Mahkamov, 26, and Ibrohimjon Hoshimov, 26, who were killed in a clash at the border on April 29, took place on April 30.
According to a source within the Isfara administration, about 10 Tajik nationals were killed and more than 90 others were wounded during the April 28-29 clashes.
So far, the Tajik side has not officially announced the number of those killed and wounded in the mentioned clashes.
Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, has published names of eight Tajik nationals during the April 28-29 clashes, including the abovementioned residents of Sarijar mahalla Mahkamov and Hoshimov.
In addition to these two guys, the following persons are on RFE/RL’s list:
– The 28-year-old Major Salohiddin Gadoyev, commander of a frontier post of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan deployed in Mastchoh district, Sughd province. His three children are left without father;
– The 32-year-old of Ovchi-Qalacha jamoat in Bobojon-Ghafourov district, Umedjon Yusufov;
– Bakhtovar Mahmoudov, resident of Naiman village, Surkh jamoat subordinated to the city of Isfara;
– Abduhamid Odinayev, deputy head of Ovchi-Qalacha jamoat in Bobojon-Ghafouov district;
– The 28-year-old resident of Dahbed village in Qaratogh jamoat subordinate to the city of Tursunzoda, Nekrouz Ghafourov. His two children are left without father;
– Sherali Rahmatov, border guard;
– Safar Nabiyev, border guard.
It is to be noted that on April 29, the armed forces of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan engaged in their most vicious bout of fighting in years.
Both countries host Russian military bases and maintain close relationships with Moscow.
When the clashes broke out, Kyrgyzstan’s Security Council Secretary was in Dushanbe to attend a session of the Committee of Security Council Secretaries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member nations that took place on April 29. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are members of this Russian-led security bloc.
