On June 4, Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda heading a Tajik delegation met in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt with Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), on the sidelines of the IsDB Group annual meeting.
The press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan (MoEDT) says Zavqizoda noted during the meeting that collaboration with partners of development, particularly with IsdB, is of significant importance for development of Tajikistan’s national economy.
The parties reportedly discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and IsDB, the progress of implementation of IsDB-funded projects in Tajikistan, attraction of preferential loans to mitigate the impact of external factors, implement the government’s anti-crisis plan and new priority projects based on the country's development goals, and perspectives of medium-term cooperation.
In this regard, Zavqizoda asked the IsDB Group President to invest in priority sectors of Tajikistan’s economy in order to prevent impact of potential risks on the country’s social and economic sectors and achieve the Government’s priorities and strategic goals aimed at developing green economy, construction of new hydropower facilities, developing the digital economy, etc.
For his part, Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser reportedly expressed readiness to increase investment in projects in these areas and further expand cooperation.
Tajik minister also invited IsDB Group President to pay visit to Tajikistan. The invitation was gladly accepted, according to the MoEDT press center.
The Republic of Tajikistan joined the Islamic Development Bank on November 27, 1996. To-date, the IsDB has accepted 86 investment projects in a total amount of 641 million USD, and US$286 million worth of 23 projects have been implemented in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy so far.
