DUSHANBE, June 7, Asia-Plus — A final decision on a type and height of a dam at the Roghun power station in Tajikistan may possibly be made at a meeting of Tajik-Russian commission for economic cooperation in Moscow in late June, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ramazan Abdulatipov remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on June 6.
The Tajik-Russian commission for economic and trade cooperation will meet in Moscow on June 28.
“Independent international experts have been invited to assess technical issues, and they should submit their resolution [on feasibility study for the Roghun station],” said the ambassador, “But the procedure has been delayed and a date of providing the resolution has not yet been determined.” According to him, Russian aluminum giant “Russky Aluminy” (Russian Aluminum) По его словам, компания «Русский алюминий» в настоящее время активизировала свою деятельность, выделив недавно около $60 млн. на проведение подготовительных работ и строительства домов для рабочих.
RusAl intensified its activity, beginning the first stage of a project to construct the Roghun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan, Abdulatipov said. RusAl recently provided some $60 million into the first stage of the project, which is slated for completion in September and will create infrastructure for the specialists needed to construct the power station itself.
“Whether with RusAl or without it, Russia will construct the Roghun power plant in Tajikistan and participate in the agreed projects,” Ramazan Abdulatipov stressed.
