DUSHANBE, October 28, 2010, Asia-Plus — The Government of Germany will support modernization of the small power plant Oqsou in Murgab district instead of construction of a new small power plant in the area as it had been previously planned, Rashid Gulov, an engineer-in-chief, Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier), told reporters on October 27.
According to him, a US$5 million grant awarded for construction of a new small power plant in Murgab is not enough for construction of the new small power plant under conditions of Murgab district, Gorno Badakhshan.
“Therefore, the sides have decided that the funds will go to financing modernization of the Oqsou small power plant functioning in the district,” said Gulov, “The modernization will allow increasing the station capacity from 120 to 700-800 megawatt.”
More than thirty small power plants now operate in Gorno Badakhshan. The Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) operates the Pamir-1 and Khorog stations as well as nine small power stations located in various districts of the region.
