QURGHON TEPPA, August 23, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Khatlon governor Ghaybullo Avzalov has ordered chairmen of local cities and districts to support young teachers and provide them with dwelling.

Khatlon province now has 1,000 teaching vacancies.  Earlier, this problem was not so acute because the Ministry of Education sent best fifth-year students at the teachers’ training institutes to the province to work with local schools.  However, the students have returned to their institutes to continue their studies.

According to the governor, public education spending accounts for more than 60 percent of this year’s regional budget.
