DUSHANBE, July 19, 2010, Asia-Plus — Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan’s national budget has received customs duties some 180 million somoni (equivalent to more than 41 million U.S. dollars) less due to the global financial crisis and the rail problems connected with Uzbekistan’s halt of freight cars bound for Tajikistan, the first deputy head of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, Nemat Rahmatov, announced at news conference in Dushanbe on July 19.
He stressed that although Uzbek authorities had officially permitted movement of Tajikistan-bound freight cars along the Termez-Amuzang railroad, the customs receipt situation has not yet improved.
Meanwhile, the deputy head of the Customs Service, Nouriddin Mahmadov, noted that the Customs Service was supposed to transfer 1.85 billion somoni this year. “In January-June this year, customs officers have transferred 726.7 million somoni to the budget,” Mahmadov said.
According to him, a total of 2,663 customs infringements have been reported in the country over the first six months of this year.
