DUSHANBE, July 17, 2010, Asia-Plus — Two Afghan nationals – Amonuddin waladi Abdukarim and Emomuddin waladi Abdul – have been detained in Dushanbe on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
They were detained in a special operation by police on July 16. When searching apartment the detained Afghans rented in Dushanbe, police officers more than 36 kilograms of hashish, the source noted.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug pushers and an investigation is under way.
In all, 413 drug-related crimes have been reported in Tajikistan over the first six months of this period which is 16.3 percent more that in the same period last year. Tajik law enforcement authorities have seized 1,300 kilograms of narcotics over the report period. A totaled included 348 kilograms of heroin, 228.6 kilograms of raw opium, and 723 kilograms of cannabis.
