Rahmon receives Special Assistant to US President for National Security Affairs today

DUSHANBE, July 15, 2010, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon is receiving Special Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the United States National Security Council, Mr. Michael Anthony McFaul, today afternoon.  Mr. McFaul arrived in Dushanbe on a short visit today.

The source at the Government of Tajikistan says they sides are expected to discuss the situation in the Central Asian region and Afghanistan as well as cooperation between special services of the two countries in countering international terrorism and drug trafficking.

Dr. McFaul received his B.A. in International Relations and Slavic Languages and his M.A. in Slavic and East European Studies from Stanford University in 1986.  He was awarded a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford where he completed his Ph.D. in International Relations in 1991.  Professor McFaul has written numerous books on democratic transitions.
