Tajikistan’s population increased by 50,000 in three months, but the growth rate slowed

During this period, the birth rate decreased, and mortality increased.

Over the first three months of this year, the population of Tajikistan increased by 48,700 people, which is 1.1% less compared to the same period in 2025, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic.

Over the reporting period, 57,900 children were born in the country, which is 0.1% less compared to the same period last year.

The birth statistics by region of the country are as follows:

– Khatlon province – 24,000 people;

– The Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) – 700 people;

– Sughd province – 13,300;

– Dushanbe – 5.5 thousand people;

– Cities and districts directly subordinate to the center (RRPs) – 14,400.

The number of births in GBAO decreased by 11.2%, in Khatlon province – by 1.6%, in the city of Dushanbe – by 8.9%, while in Sughd province it increased by 1.1% and in RRPs – by 5.8%.

Mortality by region was as follows:

– Sughd province – 3,000 people;

– Dushanbe – 900 people;

– RRPs – 1,800 people;

– Khatlon province – 3,200 people;

– GBAO – 260 people.

The highest increase in mortality – 38.3% compared to the same period last year – was recorded in GBAO, and the lowest (0.7%) in Sughd province.
