Cooperation on mutually beneficial use of water in CA discussed in Tajik capital

DUSHANBE, October 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  – A three-day seminar formally titled seminar “Mutually Beneficial Multilateral Water Agreements: Opportunities to Add Value and Share benefits in the Energy, Agriculture and Water sectors in Central Asia through Increased Regional Cooperation” ended in Dushanbe yesterday.

Organized by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UN RCCA) in cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the united States Agency for International Development (USAID, the seminar brought together representatives of five Central Asia’s states, international and regional organizations as well as international experts to discuss potential opportunities for getting mutual benefit from use of water resources in the energy and agrarian sectors in the Central Asian.

According to press release issued by UN RCCA, international experts presented innovation projects that could help determine specific forms of interaction between Central Asia’s states.

The seminar participants paid a special attention to issues related to determining practical measures to promote improvement of dialogue and interaction between the Central Asian countries on the issues of management of water-and-energy resources in the region.

They also exchanged views on potential elements that could be taken into account on working out mutually beneficial water resources management agreements.
