CDB’s delegation arrives in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, September 7, Asia-Plus  — A delegation of the China Development Bank (CDB) arrived in Dushanbe yesterday to attend the seminar formally titled “Countering Financial Crisis and Cooperation in Finance Sector,” according to the Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) press service.

The CDB’s delegation has arrived in Tajikistan within the framework of interstate programs of the Interbank Association of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The CDB has worked in Tajikistan since 2005 and over the past four years, it has supported 7 projects here for a total amount of more than 120 million U.S. dollars.  These have been used to support enhancement of mobile communications, agrarian sector as well as development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Tajikistan, the press service said.

Under the programs of the SCO Interbank Associations, the China Development Bank has provided a US$35 million credit to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).  These funds have gone to supporting enhancement of the agrarian sector and loans have been provided to some 5,000 farmers, the source said.

CDB also funds projects for construction highways, railroads and hydropower plants as well as support development of mining in Tajikistan.

The China Development Bank (CDB) is a financial institution in China under the direct jurisdiction of the State Council. It is the only bank in China whose governor is a full minister. It is one of the three policy banks of the PRC, primarily responsible for raising funding for large infrastructure projects, including most of the funding for the Three Gorges Dam and Shanghai Pudong International Airport.  The bank was established by the Policy Banks Law of 1994.

Debts issued by CDB are fully guaranteed by the central government of the People”s Republic of China. CDB is one of the biggest issuers of bonds in China.
