KHUJAND, April 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a press conference in Khujand, chief of the office of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption for Sughd province Husein Oqilov noted on April 22 that 60 corruption-related and economic crimes have been reported in the province over the first quarter of this year, which is 12 cases more than in the same period last year.
He said that according to findings by the anticorruption agency, corruption and economic crimes cost the province at 4,291,363 somoni over the report period. “To-date, 26,730 somoni have been reimbursed,” Oqilov noted.
Over the same three-month period, officers from the Sughd anticorruption directorate have inspected 42 enterprises and organizations across the province and damage revealed during the inspections has been estimated at 1,648,175 somoni.
