DUSHANBE, February 22, Asia-Plus  — One person was killed on February 21 as an avalanche buried a heavy truck KAMAZ on the highway connecting Dushanbe and northern Tajikistan, the press center of the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) reports.

The avalanche occurred after several days of heavy snow and hit a road that connects Dushanbe with another city, Khujand, the source said.

Meanwhile, 22 vehicles have reportedly been released from the snow captivity and according to the preliminary data, some 50 other vehicles still remain trapped by avalanches.

Twelve heavy tractors are working at the avalanche site, clearing snow from the mountain road and trucks trapped at the site.

“To-date, they have cleared the section of the highway from 43rd to 62nd kilometer and the section from 62nd to 71st kilometer still remains blocked,” the source said.
