DUSHANBE, March 7, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday March 7, Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament ratified the CIS agreement on combating human trafficking.
CIS interior ministers’ meeting held in St. Petersburg in September of 2010 produced the agreement for joint measures against human trafficking.
In a report released at the Majlisi Namoyandagon session, Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimov noted that the problem of human trafficking and trafficking in organs and tissues is one of the most acute problems not only within the CIS area but in the world as a whole.
According to him, the agreement gives an opportunity to exchange rapid information and analytic data. Besides, the CIS nations commit themselves to jointly combat such phenomena and bring those guilty to account, Rahimov noted.
The minister added that to fight and prevent human trafficking in the country a governmental commission has been set up and a special sub-unit has been established at the Interior Ministry organized crime control directorate (UBOP).
Ramazon Rahimov told Asia-Plus on Wednesday that victims from Tajikistan most are trafficked to Russia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the statistical data from the Ministry of Interior (MoI), more than 100 cases of trafficking in Tajik nationals were reported abroad last year alone. “Several criminal group engaged in human trafficking have been broken up in Tajikistan,” the minister noted.
