DUSHANBE, March 7, 2012, Asia-Plus — The Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan is currently making preparations for conducting the census of agriculture in the country.
An official source at the Agency for Statistics says they are currently developing the concept, inventory and working out the budget for conducting the census.
“The preliminary budget for conducting the census of agriculture is estimated at 4 million U.S. dollars,” said the source. “The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) has greed to provide international expert that will render consultative assistance to the Agency with preparing and conducting the census of agriculture.”
Earlier, the Agency for Statistics noted that many international organizations, including FAO, would support implementation of that social project.
We will recall that Ms. Bakhtiya Muhammadiyeva, chairperson of the Agency for Statistics, told reporters on April 25, 2011 that it will be the first census of agriculture in the country. “A working group comprising 23 specialists will be set up to conduct the census of agriculture across the country,” she said.
According to her, the project will be coordinated with the ministries of agriculture, finance, economic development and trade, land management committee and other relevant agencies.
The census of agriculture is expected to cover all categories of farms and its main parameters include areas under crops, livestock population, the number of agricultural machines and so forth. The census of agriculture will allow defining an extent of development of the country’s agrarian sector, problems facing the sector as well as measures needed to promote further development of the agrarian sector.
