KHUJAND, March 26, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Six suicide cases have been reported in the northern Sughd province over the past week alone, according to the Sughd police directorate alone.

An official source at the Sughd police directorate says 35-year-ol resident of the Istaravshan district, 24-year-old woman from the Ghonchi district, 36-year-old resident of the city of Khujand, 19-year-old woman from the Zafarobod district, 62-year-old resident of Konibodom and underage girl (10th grade student) from the Bobojonghafurov district committed suicide by hanging themselves.   

According to the statistical data from the Sughd police directorate, 37 suicide cases have been reported in the province over the first two months of this year.  Men reportedly committed suicide in 20 cases, women committed suicide in 13 cases and minors committed suicide in 4 cases.

It is to be noted that the authorities in northern Tajikistan set up a special group to try to stem an increase in the number of suicides in the area.
