Russia to develop special programs to support development of CA countries

DUSHANBE, March 3, 2012, Asia-Plus – Russia is currently considering the issue of developing special programs to support development of Central Asia’s countries.

According to Interfax, Viktor Ivanov, Director of Russia’s Drug Control Service (FSKN), remarked this at a news conference in Moscow on March 2.

He noted that the question was of “corporation of development of Central Asia with support of the Russian Federation.”

Russian drug control kingpin was quoted as saying that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin ordered to consider the issue of creating “this instrument of our influence and our help to Central Asia’s countries.  Only through boosting the economy and development programs it is possible to solve the problem of transit of narcotics via the Central Asian countries.”

“Today’s economic situation in Central Asia is extremely hard.  There is a huge number of unemployed [in Central Asia’s nations], while there is volcano next to them that produces a huge amount of narcotics.  Poverty generates the foot for transporting narcotics,” the FSKN head said.
