DUSHANBE, June 14, 2012, Asia-Plus – Police are seeking help in catching killers of Kholmumin Safarov, 57, the husband of President Rahmon’s sister.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that Kholmumin Safarov was found dead near Dushanbe’s bus terminal Wednesday night, at around 9:40 pm after being shot in the head, the chest and the stomach by unknown assailants.
The Ministry of Interior promises large cash prize for help in catching killers of Kholmumin Safarov.
A native of the Vose district in Khatlon province, Kholmumin Safarov had been serving as chief of the unitary state enterprise, Jangal va Shikor (government”s forest and hunting agency) under the Committee for Environmental Protection.
Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports that while many of the president”s relatives control major Tajik companies and banks, Safarov was not known to be involved in big business. According to RFE/RL’s Tajik Service, the shooting is reported to have occurred as Safarov was returning to his home after evening prayers at a nearby mosque.
