DUSHANBE, June 18, 2012, Asia-Plus  — A small hydroelectric power plant has been introduced into operation in the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district, Sughd province.

Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan), says an official ceremony of introducing the 500 kW Kuhiston HPP into operation took place on June 17.

According to him, the plant was built in the framework of the national program for construction of small hydropower plants in mountain areas.  “Barqi Tojik has spent some 5.9 million somoni for construction of this plant,” Yodgori added.
