DUSHANBE, July 28, 2012, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has closed border crossings on the Gorno Badakhshan stretch of its common border with Afghanistan.

Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the Main Border Guard Directorate within the State Committee fro National Security (SCNS), says the decision to close the border crossings has been made in connection with an ongoing special operation in Gorno Badakhshan.

Three border crossings now operate on the Gorno Badakhshan stretch of Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan: “Ruzvai” in the Darvoz district; “Tem” in the city of Khorog and “Ishkashim” in the Ishkashim district.  There is one more border crossing on the Gorno Badakhshan stretch in the Vanj district, but it is still under construction.

Meanwhile, the Afghan authorities have reportedly strengthened control of the Badakhshan stretch of the border with Tajikistan.
