Supreme Court postpones consideration of protest against “not guilty” verdict on 19 officers of MoD

Date:

DUSHANBE, February 14, Asia-Plus — Supreme Court’s Board has postponed consideration of a protest lodged by Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office against “not guilty” verdict on 19 officers of the Ministry of Defense (MoD).

Salijon Jurayev, defense lawyer of the servicemen, has told Asia-Plus that the consideration of the protest was adjourned on February 13 until February 17.  The Supreme Court’s Board ordered the adjournment because some judges, members of the court’s board, yesterday took on other trials.

We will recall that these 19 officers of the Defense Ministry have faced more than 80 charges ranging from abuse of office to embezzlement of state funds.

The prosecution demanded long prison terms, from 10 to 15 years, for them while the court passed a verdict of “not guilty.”  Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office lodged a protest to the Supreme Court against “not guilty” verdict passed on the officers.
