CSTO security council secretaries gather in Tajik capital to discuss regional security

, April 26, Asia-Plus – Today, secretaries of security council from four states of

Central Asia

and the


Russian Federation


are discussing in


Dushanbe


issues related to strengthening regional security as well as fighting terrorism and other manifestations of extremism in the region.  

The meeting participants include secretaries of security council from


Tajikistan


(Amirqul Azimov),


Kyrgyzstan


(Miraslav Niyazov),


Kazakhstan


(Kenzhebulat Abdyrov),


Russia


(Igor Ivanov), and


Uzbekistan


(Mukhtar Atayev).

The session is discussing cooperation in fighting drug trafficking, terrorism and extremism, as well as collective plans of actions to strengthen regional security and implement large-scale projects.

 The source says this consultative session has been initiated by the Central Asian states.  The session is being held behind closed doors.  Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Nikolai Bardyuzha, is also attending the meeting in
