Candidates for presidency to receive from national budget only 3,600 Somonis each for election campaign

DUSHANBE, September 5, Asia-Plus — Candidates for presidency will receive from national budget 3,600 Somonis each for election campaign, while additional funds to support a candidate should not exceed 100,000 Somonis.  

Mr. Abdurrahmon Abdumannonov, the first deputy of Tajikistan’s Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, who yesterday was elected as the head of press service of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER), has told Asia-Plus that such a decision was made at the first meeting of the CCER that was held in Dushanbe yesterday.

According to him, the meeting focused on preparations for the election. It was decided to set up 68 constituencies and 3,200 polling stations for holding the presidential election.  For organization the election each of the district electoral commission will reactive 300 Somonis, and electoral commissions at polling stations will receive 200 Somonis each.  

The CCER yesterday also passed a resolution on naming representatives of candidates for the presidency to the electoral commissions.  “Lists of the candidate’s to the district electoral commissions should submitted 45 days before the election, and lists of the candidate’s representatives to the electoral commission at the polling stations should be submitted 35 days before the election,” Mr. Abdumannonov said.  

The 158,000-162,000 signatures needed to register as a candidate should be collected within 20 calendar days.  Besides, accreditation of international observers to monitor the voting process should conclude 20 days before the election, and accreditation of local observers should conclude 10 days before the election.  

The CCER meeting also made a decision on setting up a special staff for considering complaints and proposals on a process of the holding of the presidential election.  Mizrob Kabirov, the first deputy head of Tajikistan’s Chief Administration for State Secret Affairs, heads this staff.  The commission also set up a press service headed by Abdurrahmon Abdumannonov.
